Four Days of Rum

Posted in Blog

As I peer out at darkened sky’s and hear the gentle patter of rain against the window I’m a little sad that summer has left us for this year – nothing but a dreary autumn ahead of us…  But a glance at the calendar reminds me that it’s just a few weeks until RumFest 2012 and with that my spirits lift!  But the best part is this year we’ve four days of rum fun to be had.

“Four days?” I hear you cry…

Yessir!  The fun starts in London on the 11th October with the UK finals of the Angostura Cocktail Challenge.  I’ll admit, you might have to be in the drinks trade to get involved with this one, but it’s a good start for those that are (i.e. me!).  The winner will be heading to Trinidad for Carnival next year – an opportunity not to be missed and all competing will be giving it their very best!

The fun continues on Friday 12th October with the RumFest launch party – Speakeasy chic with Angostura!  You’ll need to dress to impress in 1920’s rum running style.  Check out the London Cocktail Week website for more details.

Saturday 13th October see’s the start of the world’s biggest Rum Festival.  Probably don’t need to say much more than that – be there or be square!  The rum fun continues in the evening with The Golden Barrel Awards.  It’s a chance to celebrate the great and the good of the rum world – oh and drink a few rum based beverages along the way!

Sunday 14th October is the second day of RumFest – perhaps more of a trade day as all those hard working bartenders are more likely to get time off to pop by and catch up with what’s new in the world of rum!  When time is finally called at the ExCel centre – the action relocates to Bloomsbury Lanes for rum and bowling.  The inspired combination that’s likely to be the talking point of the whole London Cocktail Week.

I’m smiling at the prospect of the fun ahead!  See you there?

Pete
